Rise of Mompreneurs

by | Last updated Sep 19, 2022 | Personal Finance

Who can do it better than mom can? Mothers must be some of the most economically savvy individuals in America. They are usually out and about balancing budgets, buying school supplies, preparing meals, and bringing home that proverbial bacon. The modern-day mother has become more than an overworked stay-at-home mom; she’s become the epitome of stick-to-itiveness. Since 1960, kids under 18 being raised by both parents has dropped from 88% to about 69%. If we consider ethnicity, there is a significant disparity between white and black American cultures. Two parents raise 74% (of that 69%) of all white children compared to 38% of black children. What does that mean? From an economic perspective, black families must take a more economic stance and become more financially adept than any other culture here in America since, statistically, black mothers are more likely to be the sole financial provider for their families.

With single motherhood on the rise, another growing trend in America is “mompreneurs” (moms doing business). Many mothers find the traditional 9 to 5 workweek impractical when balancing their children’s emotional, educational, and financial needs within a 40-hour workweek. However, more and more mothers are utilizing the power of the internet and other technologies and platforms to create primary and supplemental incomes for their households. Moms are creating blogs, e-commerce sites, web development, direct sales, and marketing companies from their homes. They are creating schedules that work! Here’s a list of some of the top mompreneur ideas:

Freelancing
If you have a knack for creating content or digital art, then freelancing is something a future mompreneur should consider. There are a wealth of online opportunities awaiting people that have the skills to write blogs, and ebooks, create logos, and design branding and marketing material for people and businesses. Website platforms such as Fiverr have created a portal for freelancers and people looking to utilize a plethora of business services.

Health & Fitness Guru
Health and fitness is a 30-billion dollar industry in the United States, and if you are one of those health and fitness mothers that love to eat healthily and work out consistently, there are many ways that you can create an income doing what you love. Some women have personal fitness boot camps and health & wellness seminars and practice everything from massage therapy to holistic counseling.

Network Marketer/Direct sales
Network marketing is a great way to leverage your time and energy. These companies have created more millionaires than any other business and creates the opportunity for members to develop some pretty hefty incomes. Network marketing companies tend to have low startup costs but require trainable, consistent, and disciplined members. They cover many diverse markets in finance, health, online shopping, travel direct sales, etc.

Affiliate Marketer
Affiliate marketers earn a commission by promoting other people’s (or company’s) products. You find a product you like, promote it to others and make a piece of the profit for each sale. There are a lot of companies that offer affiliate marketing programs. Click Bank is one of the biggest companies where you can search for digital products such as eBooks software and educational tools to market and earn commissions. Click Bank also just launched a program called Click Bank University that teaches people how to become effective and efficient Click Bank affiliates.

Ecommerce/shopify
There are a lot of badass mothers making a killing and selling things online. Companies such as Shopify have enabled people to create a fully functional eCommerce site in a few hours. And with all the apps you can download within the platform to assist in designing your products or selling products from around the globe, mompreneurs can build a very successful online store with little to no website development skills.
